Can I Give You a Little Advice?

I’d like to share with you a new post card series I’m working on that’s all about good advice. Some of you might remember the Aussie Slang series that a did a while back when my daughter was planning and anticipating her trip Down Under. I really enjoyed making and sending those post cards and told her I would send her more if she gave me a new idea or theme.

She found this blog and asked if I could adapt this idea to post cards. Yes! I really like these post-it notes left in random places with messages that are short, positive, and universal. Although the blog refers to them as "things we forget" I think they're really just plain old good advice.

These are the first few I’ve done. I’ll post them as I create more and I welcome your ideas or suggestions for future cards. What is the best advice you’ve been given or wish you had been given when you were younger? Leave me a comment and you just might see your advice in a future post.

IF - Propagate

A while back, I created this little watercolor as an exploration of shape, pattern and color. It reminds me of cells that might be seen under a microscope, so I thought it would fit for this week's theme of propagate. Maybe this is what our "creativity" genes look like?

IF - Adrift

This is my battle cry when I feel like I'm adrift in a sea of distraction. I try to concentrate on the task at hand, but there are so many little diversions battling for my attention. Oh, look at me! C'mon, play with me. Please? Please? And I'm not talking about small children or pets. There are journal pages to fill, paints to mix, books to read, lovely blogs to visit, just to name a few. Play is so much more rewarding than work. So I usually have to reward myself for work with play. So much to do...so little time. Must. Stay. Focused.

IF - Muddy

In case you haven't noticed, I love color. But for this week's Illustration Friday theme, I decided to limit my colors to just a few in order to illustrate this quote by Lao Tzu. I only used two shades of blue, brown, and a bit of purple. I think these are wise words to remember the next time you're feeling a little muddled. Time and patience are sometimes all that's needed to clear things up. As usual, it was done in my watercolor Moleskine with Pitt pens and watercolor.

IF - Focused

Lately, I've been focused on learning about the law of attraction and this quote sums it up quite nicely. As a matter of fact, I found so many good quotes for the Illustration Friday theme of FOCUSED that I did two illustrations.

This week's theme is one of my favorites by far!

IF - Clumsy

Sometimes I think I must be a food magnet. Hardly a day goes by that I don't spill, splatter, squirt, slop, drip, dribble, or drop some sort of food or beverage on myself. Once at a wedding I created a monster stain when I tried to clean up a butter spill smack in the middle of my top. Luckily, the top was reversible so I went into the restroom, turned it around to the other side, (a totally different color) and went back to the table. Nobody even noticed! Maybe I should invest in an entirely reversible wardrobe.

IF - Wilderness

This week's Illustration Friday topic of Wilderness gave me the chance to illustrate one of my favorite quotes by Alan Alda. I only did the first half of the quote, but here it is in its entirety.

"Be brave enough to live creatively. The creative is the place where no one else has ever been. You have to leave the city of your comfort and go into the wilderness of your intuition.
