List It Tuesday - Camera Mumbo Jumbo

I can't seem to shoot a decent photo to save my life. So, either--I'm the world's worst photographer or my crappy old camera is just not cutting it. I'm hoping it's the camera, so I've asked Santa to bring me a new one for Christmas. I just want a nice point and shoot camera that will take decent pictures I can post here of finished art or work in process. But all this camera mumbo jumbo is making my head spin! There are so many choices. Even if I narrow it down to one brand and a specific price range there are still too many options to sift through.

So I'm asking you--my fellow bloggers--for a little help. Which camera do you have? Do you love it? Do you hate it? Why? What features are a must have? I'm looking for something under $200 that is easy to use and can fit in my purse. Help me please!

And then hop on over to artsyville for another week of list love.

Pat, I'm loving your list!! I know what you mean about shopping for the camera.....I have a Sony point and shoot, and my DD is on her 2nd one....I like a big LCD display, a rechargeable battery and if I can limit the number of USB cords going into my pc all the better. There are so many good and comparable cameras out there....I say, put your hands on a few and see what feels right and if the functions make sense to you. Good luck :D

i'm with you on the mumbo jumbo.......i can't make any sense out of any of it (and as soon as i figure it out, they'll change it all, guaranteed!). my dutch sweetie gave me a nikon D40 for my 50th birthday and i love it! but, i'll be honest that right now i basically use it for point and shoot......there are options on it that i'll never use (and i'm sure that if i program it a certain way it would probably vacuum the floor for me, but i haven't figured it out yet), but i'm super happy with the quality and it's easy to use! i love your list.....good luck with the search!! xoxo, :))

I LOVE this—your list and your list art! And, I'm totally with you on all of the camera mumbo jumbo!

I have a Nikon D60 and I use it about the same as Lori. I keep getting out the manual to refresh my brain on the menus and terms. Maybe it's my fault—that I just don't use it often enough. But my pictures always turn out great.

I hope you find something you that works for you. :-)

Great list !! All that stuff is so confusing !! I have just progressed to a DSLR but my point and shoot was a Nikon COOLPIX. I used it for years and I LOVED it !! I don't use it anymore though. I mainly use my DSLR but if I'm out and about and need a camera, I use the one in my iPhone ... it's my best point and shoot !!

My list is up now ... can't wait for U2 see it ! tee hee

i'm totally there with ya on the camera confusion. my old point and shoot (from 2003) is still tickin', but i'd love to get a new one. too nervous about the lingo to read the literature! i've had luck with cannons.

I love your lettering!
It jumped out at me as soon as I landed on the page and I think it's beautiful :-)

I recently got a Fujufilm Finepix S1800. It's around $200 USD.
It has far more options than point and shoot though so it may be way more than you need. I use it mostly as a point and shoot but I do like the easy toggle options to switch to Macro or Super Macro for super close up shots. One of the things I love about it is that it takes AA batteries so I can use rechargeable NiMH's and it feels like I will never spend money on batteries!
I ranted a bit about it in a blog post here if you're curious:

great looking list! My point and shoot is old but still clicking - it's a basic kodak... Macro is the most important setting for me, since I need closeups for my jewelry {:-D

I can so relate about the mumbo jumbo camera speak - I'm trying to learn now how to work a "nicer" camera. Love your list!

First of all I totally love your lists! They just have a joie de vivre that makes me smile. As far as a camera, I also wanted a point and shoot but something a little more of a "bridge" between P&S and DSLR so I ended up with the Olympus SP-800uz and do really like it. It has high resolution and a huge optical zoom, but I am really irritated that there is no manual focus setting. My previous bridge camera was a Fuji fine pix that I adore even now. If I was going to do it again, I'd go back to buying a Fuji for a P&S or a Bridge camera. My SLR is a Nikon and I love that, and have had the chance to play with a Nikon Coolpix which was small and light and fun. Good luck in your search!

Howdy,

I'm a computer nerd - but I don't pay any attention to all that camerea mumbo jumbo.

For digital, I use a COOLPIX - the one Ashton Kutcher hawks...it's easy.

For film (yes I still do use film for convenience), I use a Canon Sure Shot...it's easy.

Peace,
LuLu

I have a Nikon DSLR but I want a P&S to carry with me at all times. I have a Sony Cybershot which takes decent pics in sunlight but the flash photos are awful and it seems to be a battery hog. So I'm requesting a Casio Exilim for Christmas, one of the super-thin ones. My friend has one and it took some great night shots. I don't know the specific model number, though.
