Found Type Tuesday
This sign might as well be posted on my studio door for all the time I've spent in there lately. Thank goodness for Found Type Tuesday, or I would have nothing to post at all. I DO hope to be back in action a bit later in the summer. Until then, thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful Tuesday!

Found Type Tuesday
Sometimes in life your journey is interrupted by an unexpected detour or two. I haven't been devoting as much time as I'd like to art lately, but it's all good. Life is good--detours and all.
Happy Tuesday.

Found Type Tuesday
This seems like pretty good advice to me...although I'm not sure why an old-fashioned car wash would need this sign at the end of the line. Are there really a lot of tense people at the car wash?
Happy Tuesday! I hope you find a little time to relax today.

Found Type Tuesday
This sign marks one of the creepiest little shops I've ever happened across. I know it's occupied the same retail space for at least thirty years. While peering in the window after hours, it was hard to tell if the place is still in business or if it was abandoned several decades ago. I do enjoy the odd assortment of fonts and type sizes used to spell out shoe repair.
Happy Tuesday! Be good to your shoes so they don't end up here.

Found Type Tuesday
I shot this week's photo for Found Type Tuesday at a huge, used book sale held annually at a local university. I LOVE the type and design on this book although I didn't bring it home with me. I did, however, manage to peruse the stacks and bring home a number of small books for altering and inspiration. Don't you just love a book sale?
Happy Tuesday!

Found Type Tuesday
I wish I could have shot this graffiti covered train while it was stopped rather than while it was whizzing past. I think the combination of type is pretty cool despite the slight blurriness of the photo.
Happy Tuesday!

Found Type Tuesday
This shot for Found Type Tuesday certainly describes how the days, weeks, and months have been for me lately. Every time I turn around it's Tuesday again and I realize I haven't posted anything since last Tuesday! Where does the time go?
Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful week.

Found Type Tuesday
I love a good stencil job, but I don't think there's enough money in this world to get me up these stairs! I'll just admire the letters from here thank you very much.
Happy Tuesday friends!

Found Type Tuesday
The only thing better than a good cup of coffee is a giant, hand-painted graphic on the side of a building proclaiming a good cup of coffee. Enjoy your java and be on the lookout for found type this fine Tuesday.

Found Type Tuesday
This might be my favorite Found Type Tuesday image so far, even if the type is not necessarily the focal point. While walking in the park, I came across these words carved into a wooden observation deck overlooking a small river. I spent a quiet moment wondering about Nik and the person who came to this spot missing him/her enough to carve this sentiment into the wood. Then I noticed the nearby eye drawn with a ballpoint pen and following the grain of the wood. Were the eye and the words put there by the same person? Were the two connected in some way or just random acts of public mark making? I snapped a pic and was about to go on my way when I also noticed how strong the shadows were on this particularly warm and sunny day. I held out my hand to take a shadow shot and it wasn't until I looked at the photo at home that I realized the eye was still clearly visible in the shadow. I used a few photo apps to tweak the image to what you see above.
There are a couple of things that I really like about this photo. For starters, it's more than just a snapshot of found type. It feels like a collaboration between me and the unknown person or persons who drew the eye and carved the letters. I was able to include a part of myself in the photo and I think that enhances, alters, or somehow changes the meaning of the marks. I also like the notion that by creating this image and sharing it here, the unknown Nik will be remembered through this beautiful phenomenon called art--if even just for a fleeting moment. Finally, I like that I now have two images in my shadow series and it feels like the start of an interesting, new direction to pursue.
Happy Tuesday!

Cyber Tag
Tag! You're it!
I've been invited to join in a game of cyber tag.
These are the rules:
...you must post the rules
...answer 11 questions the tagger posted for you
...create 11 questions to ask the people you tag
...tag 11 people
...let them know you've tagged them
Here are my answers to the questions asked by the lovely and talented Cat of sea.sky.stone.
1. What's the first art you remember making as a child?
I honestly don't remember the first art I ever made but I do remember having the most creative school projects in the class. I spent more time making my report covers than writing the reports.
2. Pick a bouquet: Roses or wildflowers?
Wildflowers.
3. Do you speak more than one language?
I wish, but no.
4. How many unfinished projects are on your art table?
There are three unfinished projects on my art table. Plus four journals on my coffee table. Another two journals in my work bag. One in my purse. And at least a few dozen (or hundred) projects squirreled away in drawers, boxes, bins, and cupboards.
5. Peanut butter: extra crunchy, crunchy or creamy?
Extra crunchy!
6. What's your "if-you-were-stranded-on-a-deserted-island-and-could-only-have-one-song" song?
Hallelujah (shrek song).
8. The smell of bread baking, or the smell of freshly ground coffee?
Freshly ground coffee.
9. In five words or less, what does creativity mean to you?
Doing what you love.
10. What animal do you think you most look like?
I have no clue but I'm going to use my imagination and say a rabbit.
11. What art techniques have you never tried, but want to...?
There are a few printmaking techniques I've never tried, and encaustics look very interesting.
Now for a BONUS question of my own....
Are you a rule follower or a rule breaker?
I'm usually a rule follower but today I'm going to be a rule breaker. I'm only going to follow the first two rules listed above. Why? Because ALL of the bloggers on my Inspirational Blogs list inspire me and I think you should get to know them all. Really. Click on over and meet some really creative people. Plus, I'm too tired to think up some questions and notify people that they've been tagged.
Since I'm revealing things about myself here, I should add that the photo above is the first and only photo of me ever seen on this blog. I'm pretty camera shy but I've been experimenting with iphonography and have discovered that I'm OK with showing my shadow self. Stay tuned for a few more images from this shadow series.
I hope you're having a creative week! Thanks for stopping by.
